Austria is part of the EU: every shipment from Switzerland requires Swiss export clearance (e-dec) and EU import with Austrian customs declaration. T1 transit document required. Since 2024, Switzerland abolished industrial tariffs: Austrian goods imported into Switzerland are subject only to Swiss VAT (8.1% or 2.6%).
The EUR.1 certificate of origin ensures preferential tariffs under the Switzerland-EU free trade agreement. For Austrian companies exporting to Switzerland, Franzosini handles import clearance at Buchs SG (eastern border) and at Chiasso for southern traffic.

The EU Common Customs Tariff (TARIC) applies. Industrial products of Swiss preferential origin may benefit from zero ordinary customs duty under the applicable agreement and with valid proof of origin. Specific tariff concessions must be checked for agricultural and food products. Quotas, trade-defence measures and other charges must still be checked against the commodity code and origin: proof of preferential origin does not automatically remove these measures. Austria is a transit corridor towards eastern Europe; the customs procedure depends on the route and applicable regime.
