What is the duty-free allowance for travellers in Switzerland?

From 1 January 2025, the duty-free allowance for travellers entering Switzerland was reduced from CHF 300 to CHF 150 per person per day for personal or gift goods. Value is calculated net of foreign VAT (if shown on receipt). If you exceed CHF 150, VAT applies to the full amount (not just the excess): 8.1% for most goods, 2.6% for food, medicines, books. Separate allowances (not counted in CHF 150, per person, age 17+): Alcohol: 5L up to 18% ABV + 1L over 18%; Tobacco: 250 cigarettes or 250 cigars or 250 ml e-liquid or 25 disposable e-cigarettes; Meat: max 1 kg (duty CHF 17–23/kg beyond); Butter/cream: max 1 kg/L. Single items over CHF 150 are always taxable, even when travelling in a group. The QuickZoll app allows mobile declaration and payment.
