A customs entry declaration (bolletta doganale) is the official document certifying that goods have been cleared through customs for import or export. It contains all information about the operation: tariff classification, customs value, calculated duties and VAT, origin and customs procedure applied. In Italy, the import declaration is generated by the ADM's AIDA system and can be found in the importer's customs portal (PUDM), accessible via SPID, CNS or CIE digital identity. In Switzerland, customs declarations are issued via the Passar system (or the earlier e-dec Import, still active until 31 March 2027) and the release document is available through the BAZG portal. The customs declaration is a key fiscal document: businesses need it for accounting, import VAT deduction and tax audits. It must be retained for at least 10 years. In case of loss, duplicates can be requested from the competent customs authority or your freight forwarder.
