Obtaining the certification was also made possible by the adoption of new innovative transport modes capable of minimising annual CO₂ emissions while also reducing traffic on the roads: unaccompanied intermodal transport and the rolling motorway.
The first involves loading the semi-trailer at departure onto a flatcar of a freight train to the destination railway hub. After being unloaded from the train, the semi-trailer is hitched to a local tractor unit that carries out the last mile of road transport to the delivery point. In this way, the longest leg of the journey is completed by rail, significantly reducing transport emissions while easing road traffic.
The second differs from the standard unaccompanied intermodal service in that the semi-trailer and the driver travel together on the train. The advantage is that, once arrived at the destination terminal, the driver can immediately continue with their own vehicle without having to wait for a local tractor unit, unlike in classic unaccompanied transport.
Franzosini is also supported by its group, Tepoorten Group SA, whose technology branch EZDatacenter SA has made customs and transport operations 100 % paperless, thanks to an innovative portal for the automatic digital archiving of all customs documents that we serve not only for Franzosini, but for over 4,000 other entities.
Internally, Franzosini promotes environmental responsibility also through concrete actions such as recycling coffee capsules and eliminating plastic bottles in its offices, replacing them with reusable glass bottles for every employee. Constant supervision by managers and the Quality Department ensures compliance with ISO 14001 standards, optimising processes and continuously improving environmental performance.
