Bilateral relations between Switzerland and Estonia
Political relations between Switzerland and Estonia are excellent. This is partly due to the help that Switzerland gave Estonia in the area of security and defence in the early years following independence. High-level bilateral visits have also strengthened the relationship. Estonia is one of the countries to benefit from the Swiss contribution to the enlarged EU.
Economic cooperation
Economic relations between the two countries are on an upward trend. The volume of trade amounted to approximately CHF 200 million in 2014. Since Estonia joined the EU in 2004, bilateral trade has been based on the free trade agreement between Switzerland and the EU. Swiss investment in Estonia has risen steadily over the past ten years, and some 90 Swiss firms have invested in the country.
